Eclectica Contemporary is pleased to present Nothing but Blue Skies, a solo show by Yasmine Yacoubi.
Yasmine Yacoubi grew up between Dresden (Germany) and Casablanca (Morocco), which gave her a wonderful opportunity to explore all kinds of diversities. Living in many places including France (where she studied Psychology), Australia, Chile and presently South Africa expanded her sensitivity and connection to the world.
She has been painting since 1997 and continuously enhances her painting techniques, attending various international workshops including most recently the “Ecole National des Beaux-Arts” in Paris.
Yasmine finds her inspiration in her daily life, emotions being her main focus in her work: turning an overwhelming sight of blossoming prune trees into an abstract painting, and any scene that touches her could result in modern or abstract portrayal. Living in Cape Town offers her the extraordinary opportunity to explore the beauty and complexity of nature.
Nothing but Blue Skies
Yasmine Yacoubi’s approach to abstraction is a celebration of bold colour, movement, and emotional expression. Her paintings reject traditional representation in favor of a visual language where colour becomes the primary communicator of feeling. The intensity of her hues, often layered and juxtaposed in dynamic compositions, evokes a sense of spontaneity and energy. Through this, her work transcends literal interpretation, inviting the viewer to experience emotion in its rawest form, unfiltered by recognisable imagery, yet deeply resonant.
Her use of abstraction as a connection to nature is not about depicting landscapes or specific organic forms but rather about capturing the essence of life’s rhythm. The interplay of shapes and gestures in her compositions mirrors the unpredictable yet harmonious flow found in nature, from the pulse of a heartbeat to the shifting patterns of light and shadow. This perspective positions her work within a broader exploration of vitality and interconnectedness, where each mark on the canvas is an extension of an intuitive dialogue with the world.
Yacoubi’s paintings are immersive, engaging the senses through their fearless embrace of colour and movement. The boldness of her palette is not merely aesthetic but also a statement, one that asserts joy, intensity, and presence. There is a freedom in her process, an invitation to abandon rigid interpretations and instead surrender to the experience of colour itself. In doing so, she allows abstraction to be not just an artistic choice, but a deeply personal and universal means of communication.
“Abstraction is an instrument of the heart. As I paint, I express feelings in ways that words cannot, brought to the universal language of lines, colours, shapes and gestures. Through the abstraction, I hope to profoundly connect with Nature as being intrinsically part of a broader living continuum.” – Yasmine Yacoubi
