Thebe Phetogo (b. 1993, Serowe, Botswana) is a painter based in Gaborone, Botswana. He earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Fine Art in 2017 and a Masters in Fine Art in 2019 both from the University of Cape Town. He has exhibited widely across Africa and beyond in venues such as the Zeitz MOCAA, Botswana National Gallery, Kunsthal KAdE, MoCA Westport and Qingdao Art Museum. His work was included in the LIAF Biennial in Norway in 2022. Residencies include the Arthouse Foundation residency in Lagos, Nigeria in 2020 and Art Connection Africa residency at the Bag Factory in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2021. His work has been featured or reviewed in publications such as The Washington Post and Art In America. Phetogo was a 2019 Cassirer Welz Award finalist and a 2020 Emerging Painting Invitational Finalist. He is a founding member of The Botswana Pavilion artist collective.

Rooted in his positionality as a Botswana artist working from a place of dislocation, Phetogo uses art to locate and build a space for himself in history as a subject and participant of the contemporary moment. His work explores the construction of personal identity and narratives, questioning how our understanding of politics and history are formed.
