MUD
Eclectica Contemporary is pleased to present it’s latest exhibition, featuring the evocative ceramic work of Melissa Barker. Melissa presents “MUD”, a series of ceramic vessels that invite viewers to reflect on playful nostalgia.
Drawing on her own experiences and memories, Melissa has created a collection of vessels that evoke a sense of childhood wonder and carefree joy. Each vessel is glazed in wild clay, a material that she uses to reflect on her own childhood memories. As Melissa explains, her inspiration for this series comes from her memories of exploring nature as a child on “the farm”. For Melissa, these memories represent a time of innocence and wonder, a time before the complexities and challenges of adulthood set in.
Through her use of ceramic and wild clay, Melissa invites us to reconnect with our own memories and to reflect on the ways in which they shape who we are today. Each vessel is a unique reflection of Melissa’s own journey, created in a frenzy of creativity and imbued with the warmth and energy of her childhood memories.
At the heart of Melissa’s work is a sense of nostalgia for a simpler time. As she explains, “A carefree time. Happy. Living in the moment, because your mind is free from all the bullshit of being old and tired. It is nice to play a bit again. It is nice to be reminded that this too shall pass and everything eventually returns to the MUD.”
