Blending light and shadow to evoke the quiet dramas of daily life, Patrick Rulore takes the mundane and transforms well-known scenery into depictions of communities and people that reinstate and challenge preconceived representations of modern life within an African context. Cultural and theological norms are reconsidered and centered as confrontations toward classical depictions of power dynamics and socio-politics. Classical references are delightfully transformed, and global artistic traditions are shifted to unravel the complexities of African contemporary life in witty, symbolic ways.
