With an increasing focus on African Art around the world, Eclectica Contemporary aims to present a carefully selected and focused collection of art from the continent that interrogates issues facing us in a globalized world. The art at Eclectica Contemporary often showcases practices and materials from art history but which push these boundaries and explore uncharted territories of representation, technique and theory.

Based in Cape Town, South Africa, Eclectica Contemporary sees itself as an African gallery with an international vision. We celebrate the diversity and depth of art making on our continent while aiming to contextualize it for a growing global market. Our program of exhibitions shows a mix of solo shows by gallery artists alongside curated group shows. In addition, the Eclectica Contemporary exhibition space has facilities for experimental, new media and project-based works.

Investec Cape Town Art Fair 2026

Eclectica Contemporary at Investec Cape Town Art Fair 2026 explores identity, memory and materiality across contemporary artistic practices. These curated works, featuring a dynamic line up of artists including Ebenezer Samuel Akinola, Ibrahim Khatab and Justin Dingwall, each one proposes materiality not as passive matter, but as an active site of transmission, where artists give life to legacies of place, belief, labour, and becoming within their practices.

Abu Dhabi Art Fair 2025

The Abu Dhabi Art Fair brings African traditions into dialogue with a contemporary sphere of art-making. Hybridized, identity-focused works by Sahlah Davids, Ibrahim Khatab and Louis Barthélemy create conversation and sit in adjancency toward notions of heritage, identity and cultural resonance. Together, this is a multiplicative exploration of the self, innovative methods of cultural preservation, and it's representations across mediums in a space that beckons each unique artist to speak to one another.

1-54 London 2025

Eclectica Contemporary's inclusion of artists Justin Dingwall and Thando Phenyane at 1-54 London 2025 is presented as 'Threading the Divide' in the South Wing of the Fair. Justin Dingwall's work is noted for his explorations of taboos, stigmas, and how beauty ideals are conditioned by cultural attitudes and politics, particularly in African contexts. Phenyane's process draws heavily on art history and pop culture, employing a unique painterly language that presents Black figures as dark, whimsical characters, at once comical and menacing.

FNB Art Joburg 2025 | MAX: Ibrahim Khatab | Artist Spotlight

Eclectica Contemporary is proud to spotlight Ibrahim Khatab at FNB Art Joburg 2025 within the MAX section. Featured artists included Johannes Phokela, Abdoulaye Konaté, Ibrahim Khatab, Justin Dingwall, Kamal El-Feky, Nedia Were, Thando Phenyane, Ebenezer Samuel Akinola, Rory Emmett, Patrick Rulore, Sahlah Davids and Yasmine Yacoubi at FNB Art Joburg 2025. Referred to as gallery HUB, the fair’s central section presents the best in contemporary Africa art from across the continent and the world to reflect the fair’s objective to be a quality rather than quantity focused fair.

EXPO CHICAGO 2025

Featuring the textile-centric artists Louis Barthélemy and Abdoulaye Konaté, Eclectica Contemporay is pleased to present 'Thread Counts - Weaving Power, Pattern and Provocation' at EXPO CHICAGO 2025. Together, Konaté and Barthélemy push the boundaries of textile as both form and concept, proving that fabric is not limited at being decorative ; it is an archive, a battleground, and by essence , provocation. West African woven storytelling meets the charting of European legacy and postcolonial reclamation. Here, the dialogue between artists sees critique, conversation and shared dynamism. Through 'Thread Counts', they unravel the past while weaving visions of the future, reminding us that every stitch tells a story and every pattern holds power.

Part Black, Part Anomaly by Thando Phenyane | Tomorrows/Today at Investec Cape Town Art Fair 2025

With a proposition that is centered around Identity, space and belief systems, Thando Phenyane’s first solo presentation interprets and responds to the nuances that exist in navigating blackness that are framed in “Black Skin, White Masks” by Frantz Fanon. Fanon’s work offers a profound map of the psychological terrain shaped by colonization and its lingering effects on the Black psyche.
